Keeping up with the Tasiers

Writer: Ryan Ryan

If you have never visited Philippines then its very unlikely that you have ever heard of these cool little guys. To tell the truth we only discovered them when researching this amazing country.

Tasiers are one of the worlds smallest primates, and one of the only primates that feed on live prey. They are nocturnal, solitary very territorial and extremely cute.

There are always positives and negatives to animal tourism and in Asia countries this negatives seem to outweigh the positives. Me and Jas are very sensitive to animals being exploited and mistreated for the purpose of solely profit. Because of this we always make sure to do our research. When we arrived at the small sanctuary we were met by a very friendly guide that showed us through the forest. The area is completely open and is regularly patrolled for predators. There are only 8 tasiers in the sanctuary so they have enough space. The number of tourist allowed in is regulated and the noise is kept to a whisper in order to not disturb these sleeping dudes. There is no holding or flash photography. Tasiers are so sensitive that lound noises can literally give them a heart attack.

So here is what youre cam for. The pictures.
