We're getting there...

Trying to sleep the night before a big trip is never easy. I spend most of the night thinking about things I should have done weeks ago. As much as it’s a curse, its also a blessing as I remembered that I still hadn’t purchased an Asian plug adapter; top of the essentials list. yet weeks before I had already got myself a nice water bottle. PRIORITIES.

I stayed with my mum for a few nights before leaving; makes it easier getting to the airport and free food. Of course, seeing my family before I leave was my main concern though. Woke up to a full English and my last perfect English brew. Talked through my plan with mum then set off to pick up the last-minute things then head to the airport.

When I got to the airport I became we as I was re-united with my lovely partner. We sat with both families (Jas’- mum, Kev, Tia, Jessie, Lexie, my mum and our best friend Devon.) for an hour and then left them with the parking tickets to pay.

Fast forward through security and a swift burger king we were boarding. We hit gold on our first flight as we bagged ourselves the much sort after row to ourselves. Three seats two people equals happy travellers. We browsed through the entertainment and agreed on watching the modern remake of Stephen kings “It”. The decision was made mainly on the basis that it was a three-hour film which was just shy of half the flight.

Plane food is plane food, so I won’t bore you with the details, all you need to know is Jas is not a fan. Just short of 7 hours went by and we arrived in Qatar, Doha airport. One word accurately describes Doha airport and its extravagant. The whole place is strewn with sports cars Rolex shops and a Harrods. We discovered the best part of the airport when we asked someone for directions to our boarding gate. His exact words and I quote “take the escalator on the right then take the train to the south of the airport” we both looked at each other and at the same time repeated, “train?!?!”. Indeed, there was a fully functional passenger train network in the airport. Mental!

Qatar airport seemed to pass quickly and before we knew it we were back onboard a new plane. The new plane was bigger and had an upper deck. As if scoring three seats to ourselves wasn’t a big enough achievement, on our second flight we had front row seats meaning only one thing. LEG ROOOOOOM! And plenty of it. Once again, we settled in for another gruelling 6 hours.

We have learnt the hard way in the past that Bangkok is not the place to take lightly, and once again this message was reinforced. What an experience. We arrived to find we had to get through Immigration to get a visa, to then collect our baggage then walk four floors up to check back in to our new flight. If that’s not bad enough we then had to go back through security and immigration to wait 5 hours on the floor for our next flight. On top of all this we were wearing thick warm clothes and it was 32 degrees. Not ideal. Despite all this we dragged our lifeless selves onto our third and final flight to Cambodia.

When we arrived in Siem Reap international airport we quickly got through immigration and baggage claim and met our driver Ty, at the exit. Our hotel was a 15 minute open air tuk tuk ride away. It was the perfect juxtaposition to end our first two days of travel.
